There is a major shortage of Headteachers in England.
The work of WiSH - Women into School Headship - addresses this national shortage of Headteachers, now at crisis level.
Women account for the majority of the teaching profession and yet are underrepresented in all phases at headship level in our schools. Therefore, at this critical time, when recruitment is a major issue, there is even greater reason to encourage more women into the role.
There are many effective succession planning initiatives. However, we have a very specific and unique focus: our courses and services are designed for women only, who are a major untapped resource at senior leadership level in our schools. We believe that the women Deputy or Assistant Heads who are currently either not applying or not successful in getting appointed, represent a potential waste of skilled, qualified and gifted senior leaders who have much to contribute to education.
WiSH supports and inspires women leaders to be confident to make successful application for headship and to become outstanding headteachers. Our experience is that training and personal development in single sex groups can make a huge difference. Whilst this does not suit everyone, for many, women-only training provides support to take that next step to Headship. We offer an effective structure and practical strategies for addressing the obstacles, both external and internal, that women experience in school leadership, and the challenges they face in securing a Headship.
Our vision is to get more women Heads, and improve the quality of leadership in our schools. Join WiSH and take action. At this time of impending crisis we cannot afford to leave women leaders in roles where their skills and experience are under-utilised.
"If there were more courses like this, perhaps more leaders would go into Headship."
86% of delegates who have attended this course feel more confident to fulfil the role of Headship.
